Jump analysis frequently asked questions
In what configuration is Optojump Next sold?

Optojump Next is usually sold in preconfigured KITS.
The most common kits are:

  • Kit Optojump next 1 mt. single
  • Kit Optojump next 5 meters
  • Kit Optojump next 10 meters
  • Kit Optojump next extra meter
(all with 1 cm. or 3 cm. resolution)

What does a standard kit include?

The 1 mt. Basic Kit includes:

  • 1 Optojump Next Transmitting Bar (TX) with integrated interface (1cm. or 3 cm.)
  • 1 Optojump Next Receiving Bar (RX) with integrated interface (1cm. or 3 cm.)
  • 1 Bag for OptoJump Next
  • 1 USB A+B Cable
  • 1 Optojump Next Adaptor
  • 1 Webcam for Optojump Next with support
  • 1 Stand for webcam
  • 1 extension USB Cable
  • 1 Optojump Next Software
  • 1 USB Flash Drive with manuals, video, pdf and other material

What is the difference between the "1cm" and the "3cm" version?

The difference is in the physical distance between the LEDs that make up Optojump’s optics. The one-meter bars contain 33 LEDs in the “3 cm” version and 96 in the “1 cm” version. This determines the resolution of the system (and for example the margin of error in the calculation of the length of a step). From this it can be deduced that the “1 cm” system has a precision three times greater than than the “3 cm” system.

What features have been added to the new Optojump version?

  • Complete re-design of the bars
  • Triplicated resolution (1 cm. compared with 3 cm. in the previous one)
  • No connection cables between the transmitting and receiving bars
  • Distance between the bars of up to 6 metres
  • Possibility of analysing a walk and complex movements, for example, a shuttle test
  • Possibility of putting together a two-dimensional system
  • Rapid mounting thanks to the convenient connection stages
  • Video analysis with webcams (up to 2) synchronized with the events acquired and possibility of making comparisons between the different tests of one or more athletes without the need to export the data to other software supports, which anyway would not allow consultation of the image archive
  • Transport made easy thanks to the new bags
  • Doubled autonomous use
  • Native USB 2.0 interface
  • Software completely rewritten in .Net and with technologies of the latest generation
Users of the previous version can however take advantage of the new software features (including video analysis) by buying the "Kit Upgrade" that includes software also compatible with the old bars, a tripod and a webcam.

If I buy a one meter set-up today, can I extend it later?

Of course, but in this case perhaps it is better to buy the “Optojump Next Kit for extensions” which already includes the right adaptor and the trolley for multiple meters.

What is the web cam for?

The webcam, which takes up to 30 frames a second, makes it possible to film the athletes while they are doing tests. The images, automatically synchronized with the numerical data and graphics, will be saved in the database and will always be available for analysis or comparison.  Optojump supports up to two Webcams and the software supports only particular brands and models supplied by us (as the hardware and drivers must have particular features).

Can I use the new software with the previous version of Optojump?

Sure! Purchasing the "Kit Upgrade" made up

  • 1 Software Optojump Next OB
  • 1 Serial Number for Activation
  • 1 Professional Webcam
  • 1 Stand for webcam
  • 1 USB Flash Drive with manuals, video, pdf and other material
You can use previous version bars (with some limitations like lower resolution, no bidimensiona systems, etc).

The Software (in the "OB -old bar- version") must be activated and registrated via internet with the supplied Serial Number.

What are the minimum requirements for a computer to run the Optojump Next software?

A "normal" desktop or notebook with Microsoft Windows XP, Vista o Windows 7 OS is usually enough to  run Optojump Next software without problems.

Minumum requirements are:

  • Processor x86 (32 bit) or x64 (64 bit) 1 Ghz
  • 512 Mb Ram (1 Gb if run under Vista or Win7)
  • Hard Disk 20 Gb or more
  • Graphic card with Direct X support with minimum 128 Mb Ram
  • USB 2.0 ports (1 for Optojump + 1 for webcam + 1 for the second webcam)
You can even run the software on less powerful PCs (like netbooks) with some limitations: you don't see real-time video from webcam but you can save and see later the movie.

Optojump Next need Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (automatically installed from our setup if not found on the pc)

Does Optojump Next software run on a Mac?

Optojump Next software was developed on Windows Systems with the Microsoft .Net Framework. There is no native version for Apple OSX
It is possible to run Microsoft Windows in native mode (boot camp) or in virtualized environments (Vmware, Parallels, etc.) on modern Apple computers. Therefore, the answer is YES.
We've conducted tests on MacBook pro with Vmware Fusion with very positive results. Conversely, we have issues (re the dimension of the webcam image) with the virtualization software, Parallels. We recommend using Vmware.
